Preservation Services is composed of two distinct groups: Conservation and Materials Processing.

Conservation

Deborah Howe, Collections Conservator

The Conservation Unit is responsible for all aspects of the physical maintainance of items in the collection. Repairs of the circulating collection are handled by Brian Markee and Stephanie Wolff with in-house binding of pamphlets and other small soft cover items done primarily by student assistants. Protective enclosures of all sorts are manufactured in the Conservation Unit. Deborah, Stephanie, and Brian may be reached at 6-0712, 6-0861 or 6-1624 respectively.

Materials Processing

Maxine Cameron, Coordinator

Materials Processing is a new name used to pull into one unit all the processing activities not tied to conservation. The umbrella covers Shelf Preparation, the Brittle Book program, and Commercial Binding. Maxine may be reached at 6-0539.

Brittle Book Program: This program identifies brittle books which have circulated and searches for replacements. Selectors are consulted and their decisions are carried out.

Commercial binding: Softcover monographs, serials, theses, and damaged hard covered books are sent to the commercial binder for processing. Wendy Wolfe at 6-2483 processes serials; contact Barb Sagraves or Maxine Cameron for questions about monographs, theses, and repairs.
